I realized that I was at the age where I would need some attention before very long. And I had lived a few years with family and they were very gracious and all but I felt like it would be a long time (since my mother lived to 96 and I figured I'm gonna do the same thing). So I figured they (my family) needed their own life and so I wanted to take care of myself so they wouldn't have to worry about me.

And I had gone through the years with my mother, trying to find a place for her to live and finding it very difficult to find a good home. An in-law had been a board member of the Atascadero Christian Home, so I knew the name.

I came up and came to the grounds and smelled the pine needles and the beautiful air and fell in love with the place (and so did the family). So I moved up here in 1995. I used to tell people that we used to come here for vacation, now I live here. It's just beautiful.
